The Automobile Association of Tanzania (AAT) has praised the growing public response to this year’s Africa Young Best Driver competition, describing the increased participation as a positive sign of rising awareness of road safety.
Speaking about the competition, AAT Director Najma Rashid said the initiative aims to promote road safety and educate young people aged between 18 and 26 on the importance of observing traffic laws and road safety regulations.
Six contestants took part in the competition, with two winners selected to represent Tanzania at the continental Africa Young Best Driver competition, scheduled for November 14 in Dar es Salaam at the Tazara venue.
The two winners will compete against participants from various African countries expected to travel to Tanzania for the event, which seeks to strengthen road safety awareness across the continent.
Rashid said participation and stakeholder engagement had increased compared with last year, when involvement was relatively low. She described the development as an encouraging indication of growing public interest and support for initiatives aimed at improving road safety.
She further explained that AAT operates in two main areas: motorsport and mobility, which includes transport and road safety matters.
In addition to its involvement in motorsport and mobility, the organisation provides various driver-related services, including training through its driving school and the issuance of international driving permits.
Through the Africa Young Best Driver competition, AAT aims to continue encouraging young people to become skilled, disciplined and safety-conscious drivers while broadening stakeholder participation in efforts to reduce road accidents.
The initiative also seeks to strengthen a culture of responsible driving among young people and promote safer roads across Tanzania and Africa.
