Driving at 30km is the safest course

The road safety unit of the police force has said that it will continue to cooperate with road safety stakeholders to ensure that road safety education reaches all groups in society.

The statement was made by Police  Commisioner   Meloe George Buzema, who is also a police officer of the road safety unit in Tanzania, speaking at an event known as Love 30km, which urges drivers to drive at a speed of 30 per hour in local areas and school areas.

The event was organizede by  Automobile  Association of Tanzania (AAT) in collaboration with  Fideration International de Auto mobile grant programme  (FIA). 

He said that one of the main sources of accidents is speeding, if you look at many places where accidents happen, you will hear drunkenness and carelessness, but the main source is speeding and trying to overtake the car in front without caution.

In addition, he has congraturate the AAT for collaborating with the Police Force for being at the forefront in providing education, especially to primary and secondary school students.

"We believe that when you provide education to one child, you have provided education to a family or more than ten people because when he returns home he will educate others. Congratulations to Auto mobile Associatio (AAT) and please continue with this program," he said.

 Speaking at the event, before welcoming AAT Vice President Satinder Bird, AAT chief executive Najma Rashid called on drivers to drive at a speed of 30 km in residential areas and school areas.

"AAT is conducting a campaign with the World Health Organization (WHO) that emphasizes street fo life, creating and modifying roads to include elements involving Traffic, setting appropriate speed limits for each road, implementing speed limits to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding.

Dar es Salaam   Deputy Lord Mayor Saad Khimji has said that AAT is a role model because they have helped to provide road safety education to students.

"We are very grateful that the education you provide has reached the community and has helped to reduce accidents in the past there were many incidents of students being hit by a car" he said

However, he has promised that the city government will continue to cooperate with the institution so that this education reaches more students.

For his part, Dar es Salaam Regional Sports and Culture Officer Adolph  Halli , thanked AAT and its partners for conducting the training and said that the government will be with them shoulder to shoulder to ensure the education they provide is beneficial to the community.
