Meet the Artist(s)
Nafasi is very excited to welcome Fred Halla as our Artist in Residence for July.

Fred Halla was born in Songea, in the Southern part of Tanzania; he started his career as a self-taught artist before attending a formal Art training at the University of Dar es Salaam. He has been working as an artist and coordinator of various art events like workshops, exhibitions, art residencies, art talks and more for more than 15 years.

He works on different medium from water colours, Acrylic and Oil, however water colour is his favourite media. He also does Printmaking and collage.
Most of his themes are inpired by nature and everyday life in rural and urban. He likes to communicate on issues concerning social, economical, political and cultural.
                      

Recently, Fred Halla emerged the Second in Art and Democracy Competition organized by TWAWEZA in November 2017.  His weekly Children's Art Classes at Nafasi Art Space, Nafasi ya Watoto, have proved to be very popular. 

Bodil Furu (b. 1976) is a Norwegian artist and filmmaker based in Oslo. In her work she is interested in issues related to mineral extraction and representation of landscapes, the fictional dimensions of the documentary and complex narratives. Her films are widely shown internationally in solo and group exhibitions, biennials, and festivals.
Her films have been shown at MoMA in New York, the International Istanbul Biennial, the 4th Ars Baltica Triennial of Photographic Art, The Busan Biennale 2007, South Korea, Johannesburg Art Gallery, South Africa, the Lubumbashi Biennale 2013, Lubumbashi, DRC and more.

Bodil Furu will be holding a "Art of Documentary Fillmmaking" workshop this July at Nafasi Art Space from 2-6 July.

There is no wikiendi like a Wikiendi LIVE weekend! 

Wikiendi LIVE is back June 30th! Musicians and music-lovers alike will be gathered at Nafasi Art Space to celebrate sounds outside the East African mainstream. This month’s exceptionally curated line up will include performances that are fiercely original, featuring voices and influences from all around Tanzania.
